Lockport, IL WWII Reenactment

The WWII reenactment hosted by the Lockport Park District over the second weekend of September 2015 was a great success.

Each year Salute the Armed Forces (STAF) sets up a booth with our full auto 50-caliber simulated machine gun in a bunker style tent. People can have an opportunity to experience shooting this beast for $10, and the proceeds go to STAF.

This year the US Army set up recruiting at our booth as well. This picture is Ed LeTourneau with the Joliet Army Recruitment office inflatable.

The event drew approximately 10,000 people. It featured original WWII tanks,  400 reenactors, WW2 Warbirds flying bombing runs over the battlefield, and Ed LeTourneau’s pyrotechnics team coordinating live gunfire and explosions for the battle.
STAF also made a dream come true for a WWII vet. He just turned 90 years old, and he told Ed that he went into the military with the goal of being a pilot. Instead, they put him in infantry instead. For his birthday, STAF arranged for him to fly in a TBM WW2 fighter plane and he got to fly over the battlefield.  It was a amazingly special day for him!
